Complications and treatment measures
(1) Postoperative edema
Postoperative edema is divided into mild and moderate, and will dissipated in about a
week time. Ice bag can be used to reduce the postoperative edema.
(2) Erythema
Erythema is a normal reaction after taking Co2 treatment. The erythema occurrence is
proportional to the treatment dept, deeper treatment longer time erythema. The erythema
which is on the eyelid skin are particularly vulnerable to lasting longer time, because the
eyelid skin is thinner than normal skin.
(3) Ecchymosis
If ecchymosis appears in the epidermis, it may last for several weeks after treatment, but no
need to treat.
(4) Hypo-pigmented
Hypo-pigmented phenomenon shows up relatively late, most patients can feel apparently
usually. Some patients won’t feel until one year or more. The morbidity of depigmentation or
true depigmentation is not related with skin type, but depth of laser skin reconstruction
surgery.
(5) Pigmentation
The occurrence of pigmentation is associated with skin type, more common in Fitzpatrick Ⅲ
skin and higher type skin. The occurrence of this phenomenon has nothing to do with the use
of laser equipment.
(6) Infection
It is extremely rare. Local treatment part recently received radiation therapy or closed
dressing are prone to infection. Symptoms of infection are mainly pain, or associated with
burning and itching. Other symptoms include increased redness, yellow crusting or secretion,
wound erosion. For available preventive, you can use antibiotics or cloxacillin.
(7) Contact dermatitis
newborn thin epidermis is susceptible to various simulative effect of
external medication, so if not necessary, the use of external medication should be avoided
until the skin fully recover. We recommend that patients should avoid the use of cosmetics
and lotions, until two weeks after taking Co2 laser surgery.
(8) Itching
itching can be caused for a variety of reasons, including the wound is dry,
external lotions and stimulation of drugs. Another cause of itching may be infected. Itching
would be the signal of bacterial, fungal or viral infection. Pruritus after laser surgery
generally has good response to antihistamine drug, such as diphenhydramine(10mg or 25mg)
or cinnarizine (10mg). Cold compress can also improve the feeling of itching. External
corticosteroids also can relieve itching feeling.
(9) Acne and milia
Milia incidence may be correlated with the degree of heat damage of
tissue, thermal damage of tissue can cause skin damage of sebaceous glands, and it can
cause sebaceous gland duct to be blocked, then form abnormal. For treatment of acne and
milia, you can routinely take external use antibiotics, A Acid, α-hydroxy, and sebum
exclusion technique. Reasonable arrangement of life is useful for acne prevention and milia
recurrence after operating for patients with a history of having acne.
